AN EARLY & SCARCE U.S. CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1851 CADET RIFLE MOST LIKELY A WEST POINT GUN IN NICE UNTOUCHED CONDITION. ALL ORIGINAL & COMPLETE. THE GUN HAS FINE METAL & MARKINGS. DATED 1853 ON THE LOCK & BARREL ALONG WITH PROOF MARKS & EAGLE. NICE LIGHT ORIGINAL PATINA THROUGHOUT. IT HAS FINE WOOD & A U.S. INSPECTORS CARTOUCHE ON THE BACKSIDE. THERE IS A BRASS DIAMOND SHAPED ESCUTCHEON ON THE WOOD BEHIND THE HAMMER WITH THE #56 ON IT. THE NUMBER 24 IS ALSO STAMPED UNDER IT & ON THE BACK OF THE WOOD IN FRONT OF THE BUTT PLATE. THESE COULD BE WEST POINT MARKINGS. IT HAS A FINE ACTION & BORE. THIS IS A VERY FINE & ALL ORIGINAL EXAMPLE OF A U.S. CIVIL WAR MODEL 1851 CADET RIFLE!  IT WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY FINE CIVIL WAR COLLECTION!
